Mommy Blogging
So the blog world is just now opening up to me, just now in 2008. I know I am late, but I am completely blown away right now by the mass hysteria that is mommy blogging. I just found out about dooce.com (which I'm realizing is making me feel, right now, like I am being read my millions of readers--ok reality check!!!! Hi my two readers :/) and I can not believe that people are making a living on blogging about their family. And I thought I had privacy issues when it came to blogging. Are you for-rizzle? 1041 comments on their latest post. For-rizzle? This thing is crazy. How does something like this blow up to this degree? I'm shocked. But I can't help but wonder if this blogging thing is not giving millions of mommies a purpose in rice cereal and pureed carrots. Their lonely life is now potentially resolved by this box of lights in their home that is a virtual connection to the world. We are not alone. Ay, there's the rub! Now Heather Armstrong is blind-sided by millions (?-I don't know the stats--this might be an exaggeration--pretty sure it is, but then they are living off the site right?) of readers and her little blog that was her portal to social interaction with those that are beyond peanut butter sandwiches is now a stage holding the rockstar of mommy bloggers. This is absurdity. Mothers of the fifties had booze, we have dooce. And I have to just say, why am I writing this right now. Because I suddenly have this little forum that people (just a few) might read--and lets be honest, that is just freaking exciting for a mom of two boys that just doesn't get out much anymore.

Yeah.. Mrs. Armstrong is pretty addicting. I like her irreverence and honesty. Hey, I was searching Etsy and came accross this disclaimer for a baby sling:
"Safety:
Please use your common sense. While wearing your baby in a sling, do not do things that you wouldn’t if you were holding your baby. This includes things like – cooking, handling sharp objects or hot beverages, rollerblading, horseback riding, bicycling or jogging, swimming, sky diving, etc. Do not use your wrap while sleeping or riding in the car. Be careful passing through the doors or turning corners, lest you bump your precious little one’s head. With older babies be mindful of grabby little hands.
Seller cannot be held responsible for accidents or misuse."
It was printed at the end of the product description (a baby sling, no less) and it seemed pretty smart. I don't know what legal protection it offers, but it's something.
Love your blog!

I know exactly what you are talking about... this blog is not exactly a journal because who know who will read this, it is like a scrapbook/journal, but I just got a post from this random chick in Malaysia, I have no idea how she found me... but it adds a little bit of importance to my day.
I agree the popularity of such blogs is mind-boggling. But really, I think it comes down to being able to write well.
Find your audience and you're set.
Some people still need a representative and these ladies have become that.
Its pretty cool. I'm glad you're enjoying it.
